If I think I might be gay, do I have to decide right now?
No, you do not have to decide right now. The teenage years are often confusing years, as you go through puberty and your hormones kick in and your body begins to change. You are also learning how to form friendships that are deeper and more emotionally satisfying than childhood friendships. Do not rush to label your feelings. Give yourself time and space. Remember that some confusion about sexual feelings is typical for most people. As well, there may be other reasons for the way you feel.
Keeping your options open gives you a lot more freedom to figure out who you are, how you want to live your life and what kind of long-term relationship you might want. If you declare your orientation while you're still really unsure, it can become restrictive and hard to back down from later on.
Note: Some people come out at quite a young age and it is a freeing experience for them. In some cases they have felt different for as long as they can remember, have had persistent attractions to their own gender, and they have no uncertainty at all about their orientation. Coming out in this kind of situation, if there is a good and understanding support system around them, can be a positive experience.
