How many gay and lesbian people are there? It's actually really hard to tell. Even on anonymous surveys, some people may not be comfortable indicating that they are gay. According to more recent census data, between 3% and 7% of the population is gay or lesbian. While numbers might be interesting to know about, the size of a group of people should not determine how they are treated. Whether there are many gay and lesbian people, or only a few, they should be treated with the same respect as anyone else. |
